What is the True Purpose of School?

The purpose of school is to provide children with the opportunity to flourish; where they come to learn how to grow and reach their highest potential. School gives students the chance to learn social and individual efficiency and possibility. School teaches an individual to think intensively  and to think critically. School not only prepares students academically, but it sets the foundation for their future within the real world.

In order to meet that desired purpose, coming together and working as a whole is not only encouraged, but it's necessary. A marginalized individual is one that feels undeserving or disregarded within the school community; they are considered an outsider. Being perceived as someone who doesn't "fit the criteria" within a place that is supposed to help you grow and learn together seems pretty contradicting and is unacceptable. These schools need to focus more on being intolerant of intolerance. Schools need to be willing to expand and adapt to where each student is; the school needs to come to the student, it should not be reversed. If the student feels wanted, they will want to accomplish the goals that the school is aiming for and ultimately fulfill the true purpose of schooling.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed my thoughts! These were all things that I took away from school as I was growing up, and seeing that school's purpose hasn't changed says a lot!

  3. I really like how you mentioned teamwork as an essential part of teaching , this is SO true. You can only grow and learn while being along side other people that are doing the same!
